Cloisonne, a traditional Chinese art form, involves the painstaking application of brilliantly colored enamel onto a copper base in order to create beautiful designs. The resulting item is then fired and polished to produce a smooth and elegant finished product. Black agate beads, with their gleaming dark smoothness, are an excellent counterpart to the rich color and lush appearance of cloisonne beads. This hand knotted and hand strung necklace features a three-one-three pattern where three black agate beads set off each cloisonne bead.
